  2. They didn't and still have not told their kids? What? People, don't do that. Speak to your kids. The little ones knew that their grandparents were ill and grew up understanding that there were limits to what they could do, that there were things that would not work because there was no way they could make it work. They knew that one of them had a teminal diagnosis too. Not telling them would have been cruel.

  3. Here's the thing... when one of us was going through chemo for breast cancer I sat though every appointment (including blood tests) with them (but one). The only male person who was there was a 15 year old boy who was supporing his mum. At one point one of the women remarked on how unsusual it was for a man/boy to be sitting with us.... the patients immediatly started coming up with reasons why their husbands, boyfriends, sons could not be there: ranging from oh, "he is busy at work' to 'he hates hospitals'. Meanwhile here I was, working shifts, knowing I wouldn't get to sleep for the next days, worried sick because the husband of the person who was ill was covering their job on top of his own while being in ill health (and yes, he still managed to visit when they had surgery)... The excuses we make for why grown men do not even do basic care work (while literal children are quite often) is... the patriarchy has us well trained. This was not in the US, by the way, but I have heard from several sources that it is the same there as well as in other countries.

  5. I think she fused picking up from appointments and literally picking up the kid because her train of thought derailed here. The point is: he does not pick up their kids on the reg either way.
