@Kellenmcconnell1417 In german it's called Geschichtsvergessenheit - ignoring factual history and disregarding learning about history as useless. It's nothing but wilful ignorance. To them the past is at the same time unmovable, solid (cue cries of 'libs want to re-write history) and mallebal and loosely connected to actual sources. It takes a special mind to look at paintings of the founding fathers father's and not see aristocrats and gentry - ignoring what they wear in those paintings is a relativly easy next step.

@Kellenmcconnell1417 irish- german nieces? Congrats! I am sure they will find their own way of doing things and make your family very proud! Of course they do picture them as self made men who owe their positions to work and not to inheritance and slavery/indentured servitude. Sigh...
