I mean... if they think teaching cursive is so important (and I do think it is, for different reasons /and I am not american) maybe they should teach their kids?

@RecklessOne411 they stopped teaching Sütterlin in german schools. I had trouble reading my grandma's handwriting because her letters were influenced by Sütterlin. Unless your 'friend' had copperplate handwriting the probability that their kid would have had trouble with his writing is high even if they had learned cursive.

@RecklessOne411 Mate... they are plenty of countries where they do not teach a version of cursive first of the bat... and yet kids learn to read that or are able to read it once they are proficient at reading.

There are printed texts that are almost as old as the handwritten documents... If these 'conservatives' understood what libraries and archives are for they would understand that their kids could use those to look up content if they do not trust modern sources.
