  5. You hold elections on work days. You make getting to polling stations hard and even impossible. You gerrymander like crazy. You try to establish voter ID laws especially to disenfranchise poor people, people of colour, and college students. You are intent to do away with postal voting. You invest next to nothing into actual security for voting machines. In Germany we vote on sundays when most people do not work. We do not have to register to vote. Voting by post is easy. Polling stations are often within walking distance. The longest I've ever Story in line to vote was 10 minutes - because it was a local election and that means I can mix and match my vote across parties and that takes time.

  33.  @jamesmcrae9238  ID as in passport? Every single one. ID as in state ID? In California it's 33 bucks. Drivers licence? That would be 38 bucks in California too. Drivers licence in Texas? 16 bucks for minors, 33 for adults. Texas charges 24$ for a state ID first time round if I am correct.

  39.  @bobroberts2371  the german system is extremly voter friendly. You do not have to register, notices on how to vote are send to everyone that is of age. The system allows for casting your postal vote (and boy, it's so damn easy) . Do I have to show ID or a Wahlbenachrichtigung? Yes. But that I do have to have a Personalausweis or a Passport anyhows and the Wahlbenachrichtigung is send to me. It is fundamentally different from the US. Our process is meant to encourage voting and to not leave anyone behind. Unhoused? No problem, you can still vote.

Oh, and you do not have to be a german citizen to vote in some regional elections in Germany either. As long as you have been a resident for a certain time span you can cast your vote because the outcome of the election affects you.
