You do not have to vote along the party line. You are free not to vote republican even if younare registered as an republican. And a party can withdraw their support for a candidate. All of that is possible and encouraged in a democracy.

@shermanballz I can't vote in the US. What I can say is that I would have voted for the CDU rather than allowing the AfD to get a proper foothold in the Bundestag. Our political system doesn't focus of getting a certain person into office but a person/party that represents policies and ideas. The status quo for german goverments on all levels is a coalition goverment... we are used to compromise.

@shermanballz I know. Which is why you have to hold the feet of the party to the fire when they mess up. And the party has to make sure their candidates are up to scratch from the get go. There is no way HW knows about republican policies, knows how to turn policy into practice, and how to argue why one should. That is the actual fall from grace... the lying about an abortion is just an add on. I hope people will start withdrawing their support for the GOP as long as their platform is hate only.
