  2. You okay? Engine fires happen. Which is why planes have redundant systems and crew are trained again and again to deal with them.

  3. They were classified as crew because the company had signed a contract that prohibited them from taking passengers (alledgedly). Calling them crew and exploreres is the companies way of enforcing the legal loophole they created for themselves.

  5.  @thegalhorowitz  person who used to work in aviation here. It is common enough to warrant training. I had planes coming in with bird strike (that scenario gives me nightmares), suspected fire, struck by lightning (and was on one that was hit), flaps not working properly, etc pp. Shit happens. And you prepare for it. Thinking that it will not happen because the probability of it happening means making sure that it will happen. You cannot design it operate a plane or any vehicle like that.

  6. No, they didn't. The fact that sound was detected doesn't mean they knew. It means that sound was detected. It was inconclusive as well. Imagine assuming that it must have been the submersible imploding and stopping rescue efforts based on that assumption...
