Wrong. That's what happens when employers offer shite conditions and people realise that they would essentialy work for free.

Not true. People who wait tables are well paid in other countries and no one wouod think to replace them with this thing.

This is not a techonological advance. It's just technilogy. Highly prone to fail and costly to Maintal as well. Your assumption that proper wages are a problem is not based in reality. Proper wages are not an issue in Denmark. Why do you assume they are one in the US?

@patrickryan7829 self serve gas was a health and safety issue. Besides plenty of countries still have people pumping gas. Self check out in grocerie stores is not a thing in a lot of places. Try to find one in a normal german supermarket. Try timing a self check out against an Aldi or Lidl check out worker in Germany. The worker will win every time. Not sure what you mean by operator. What I do know that non of this in inevitable. We will have more automation - but we can question how it happens, where it happens, and if it needs to happen at all.

Do the people applauding these robots realise how expensive they are? That they need maintanance and repairs frequently? That models are frequently outdated before they 'earned their keep'? That these robots, especially when in contact with liquide, stop working and need to be replaced? And why the heck should a customer be willing to take their food off of one of these things in a proper restaurant? If I want no service I get take out and don't sit down in a Restaurant.
1
Which form of automation? What do you mean when you say automation?
1
Till it doesn't. And how expensive do you think a robot is that can safely open doors and transport food? How big do you think its going to be? Because sensors are not the solution when your robot is in constant contact with liquids and food stuffs.
1
Automatic door? Which would work with sensors? For how long? And what happens if the door stops working? A human can operate a door that no longer functions automaticaly - a robot can't.
1
Humans can work around failing automatic doors - this thin can't. Humans can go on working when someone spills juice over them - most robots stop working and at least need extensive cleaning.
1
Nor a robots. Machines are frequently less reliable than humans. And much more restricted in what they can do.
1
@Furiends and robot arms can only be trained to do a vefy very very limited amount of things. They are highly specialised. A robot arm that can do what a human does at McDs? Doesn't exist. And if it did it would cost a fortune. Especially because it would have to work in a place full of, sugary fluids, pickle juice, and grease.
1
@AdamtheRed- and rent is all you pay? What about add on fees? Repairs? Maintanace? How do you explain to your customer that the prices stay the same while you took away part of your product? What happens if the rent for the robot is raised? What happens if the robot cannot accomodate a change in your product? Lets say you change plates or glasses because dishes you previously sold are out of demand and the new ones do not fit anymore? How much for the new robot? Can you switch or are you suddenly stuck wirh two contracts? How fast are these robots? Faster than a human? Are you sure?
1
@Furiends you've never been to a german Aldi or Lidl, right?
1
Is it working? No.
1
@patrickryan7829 oh, dear... very popular invention.
1
Exactly.
1
@nickelpickel3924 and that's probably without extra fees. They are turning themselves from a place with service into one without. Why would anyone go to a place where you have to get your food of a thing that is basically a tray with wheels?
1
Same.
1
@michaelhernandez5384 that is an option - one of many. But why should a company pushing out workers have the right to dictate if we still eat out? And does that mean non of us will ever be allowed to leave home because you sure can't cook your own while traveling.
1
@Scarlett_victim_1_kue you know there are whole ass countries where people treat servers with respect and pay them well. Novel idea, I know.
1
Is most manufacturing done by machines? Are you sure? And there are plenty of countries where self-check outs are not common and are heavily contested.
1
Can you imagine one of these things having to navigate a crowd on a busy day? It already was slow without anyone in its way.
1
Why would anyone tip a machine? A machine that is nothing but a tray with wheels?
