That and the time that passed between the 'joke' and the slap. Had the two men been standing right in front of each other and had had Smith hit Rock with no time delay you could argue that the slap was dealt in reflex. But he laughed, turned to his wife, saw she was upset, got up, walked to the stage, walked up the stage and across it and then slaped Rock. Saying 'I just reacted' wouldn't fly in a german court. @manart6506 something like this happend in Germany just before Will Smith hit Chris Rock. In that case a comedian was punched by the friend of a rapper who he had called out for sexualy assaulting a woman. The comedian was sitting in his chair watching a boxing match when the assaulter walked up and punched him so hard his hearing has still not recovered. Should security habe expected something like that to happen? Probably not. People don't just do shit like that.

There was security when John Wayne tried something like this back in the day. That said... would you really expect someone to do something this idiotic?

@manart6506 they most definitly should have removed him back stage an not let him accept the award. The Williams sisters could have done that. I do hope the Academy re-thinks their approach... yet again.

@chesteradams7423 she clearly didn't take it that way. Plenty of people with alopecia didn't take it that way. And that is what matters. It wasn't funny.
