You do realise that the law in other countries asks you to think if your actions are reasonable and proportional? And we have less violent crimes not more?

@masewoods8337 no gun in the house is always safer. Guns in households kill people living in the household far more often than someone breaking in the house. German law does not look kindly on anyone who severly hurts someone even if that person breaks into your house - for very good reasons.

@aardvarkhendricks6555 yes. You are supposed to do that. How is that difficult to fathom? The person you think is breaking in might be your kid who forgott their key and doesn't want to wake you when they come back from working late. Instead of withdrawing from the situation ans calling the police from behind the locked door of your bathroom you went towards what you thought was an intruder... and killed your own kid. And as alien as it seems to be to you: breaking into a house does not carry the death penalty even in places that still have that enshrined in law. By the way... if someone attacks you on the street american law had determind that there is a point when you have to stop defending yourself because you are now the one attacking. You have to consider what actions to take every day... you especially have to do that when violence enters the scenario.
