He doesn't have to show respect to a person that has done nothing to earn it. Citizens are allowed to push back in a situation like this.

@nkdgolf escalated it by getting out of the car when ht cop stopped him for the second time? No, the cop escaleted... and didn't stop escalating. You are forgetting that the driver did get back into his car and gave him his documents... non of that stopped the officer escalating further.

The difference is that the police officer is in uniform and on duty. A cop with snger management issues using his position is a danger to society as a whole - a person protesting the actions of said officer loudly isn't.

@mcostagirl123 being crotchety when an officer of the law oversteps might be slightly unwise considering that this is the US - but in civilised countries it is normal and expected.
