@dx1450 they think if they follow 'the rules' it will not happen to them. And when it does happen to them (or someone they love) they either selfblame or think that they are the exeption... the good girl/woman that was harmed. Part of it might be that if they thought about it long and hard they would clme to the conclusion that a lot of the men they know are abusers and rapists.
