And it was not money due to NATO but investments in local military resources and infrastructure. Paying for childcare at a local german military base would count towards that.

  3. No, he is wrong here. He is misrepresenting what NATO does (remember the only time casus foederis kicked in? I do), how it functions, and what the US does within NATO. The US choosing to have a massive military budget is not something you can blame on other countries.

  4. There are no 'dues'. Countries agreed to raise spending on their own military over a time span that covered years. When 45 claimed moneys were owed to NATO in the fashion he did he was plain lying.

  6. But 45's argument is not 'countries should spend that much on their own military' - he is framing it as 'countries should pay the US through NATO'. He is presenting the same 'argument' someone running a protection racket is using.

  7. There are no bills to be paid. Countries are tasked with investing into their own military to a certain percentage with goals to be met over years. It was and is the choice of the US to spend big on their military (with little checks and balances). Oh, and the country spending the most when it comes to helping Ukraine? That's Germany. The very country Trump loves to target for not paying what he thinks they should.

  8. Russia and the US share a border. Putin has made clear he does think the sale.of Alaska to the US is not valid. Putin also thinks that every place that has a lot of Russians in it is Russia. Now.. to me that sounds like someone who would delight in Trump handing him the US on a platter.
