This is repeated ad nauseam despite not really meaning anything. If the penalty for breaking a law is jail time, it’s only illegal for old people.

@Typhyr this is the version that is actually just nonsensical. Literally everything is legal if you ignore the punishment.

@kit5849 but why should they pay different fines? Shouldn’t a fine be set based on the damages done? If a broke person stole my wallet, I would expect the full thing back, not a % because they don’t have any money.

@Alepfi5599 my real issue is that I’ve seen this copy and pasted a thousand times even when it makes no sense whatsoever, because people on the internet think that repeating something makes them smart. Recently Amazon was fined $25 million because Alexa was saving the recordings of kids longer than it was allowed to because of COPPA. And in hundreds of comments, there was zero discussion about it. It was just every single person posting “This isn’t a fine, it’s just a cost of doing business. They made way more than $25 million.” This isn’t true at all. Amazon doesn’t make any money from your kid talking to Alexa, definitely not $25 million. So the reason I asked “And?” is because I was hoping people would expand a little bit more beyond something I’ve read thousands of times.

Well what should the fine be for cutting a branch off of your own tree?
5
@TonyGearSolid I think you’re greatly underestimating how stupid this strike is
4
@jamesbonn2394 can you name a disgusting take I’ve had?
3
Possibly the dumbest strike in history
3
But Occam’s Razor would mean this had nothing to do with the strike and they just happened to cut the trees
3
But the studio did give them tents and water
3
And?

@alexturnbackthearmy1907 "They were well aware of law and have no need for the recordings, but made them anyway?" Do you have proof that they were doing this maliciously? I'm aware of speeding laws but I've accidentally gone over the speed limit.
2
No of course not
2
@DeosPraetorian I never said that
1
But accidentally killing someone and murder are completely different crimes
1
@sobertillnoon correct. That’s why they got fined.

@jamesbonn2394 because for some reason, every single thing I see about the strike is filled with crazy made up lies supporting the writers and actors. Like you for example. It’s in the LA Times newspaper that Universal Studio is providing tents and water but you’re trying to convince people that this thing you can just google is wrong. You’re trying to spread disinformation and I’m super suspicious as to why.
1
Well no. That would be like saying if I speed to work every morning, it couldn’t be true because I didn’t have a permit
