  1. A beautiful "big city" house, interesting that it has survived in virtually every detail. It's been said that it's "Beaux Arts style", but training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts dictated no style, any architect graduating from the school would be competent to design in any style inspired by the past, refined/filtered to the taste of the time. I'd call this house (typical) Edwardian Classical Revival. Absolutely current in 1909, it would have dated with astonishing rapidity. Porte cochere is pronounced port co-share (emphasis on the sh sound); pretty much the same in both English and French. Baluster is pronounced, more or less, ballister, accent on the first syllable.
