While that sounds simple, you get into copyright issues with the producers of those photos. They have channels too.

They had to eliminate the threat of future carrier attacks on Japan. The Doolittle raid lead to the Midway operation.

@lawrencewestby9229 taking Midway is not hard. Holding it is. You're talkin about a place has no High Ground or Jungle. No natural water source. Limited defense Force. As for Guadalcanal? If the Allies lose Midway? Hard to pull off Guadalcanal at all.

@d.olivergutierrez8690 he's still just a one-man operation working with 52 weeks in a year.
4
@ligh7foo7 the order to abandon ship had already been given. Anyone still aboard was trapped below deck.

@scottgiles7546 there was an entire live chat just Wednesday...

@Aelxi 3rd gun adds complexity to a complex system. More displacement, people, power lifts, etc. Etc.

@scottmason2557 While they had a combined goal, Combined Ops in both cases is hard to do. The Allies failed at Badly in 1942 with the ABDA fleet. Same issue, just in reverse for Axis or Central Powers.

Too deep.

Only 52 weeks in a year..

@BlaBla-pf8mf once again this comes up. Ships are not tanks. And the rules of design and weapons do not carry over.

@RedXlV you just don't ignore the Great depression.

@gregorywright4918 well the whole point of the operation was Midway as bait to get the carriers into a battle. The whole code breaking thing screwed up the element of surprise.
1
They had catapults.
1
@colbeausabre8842 strange reply, because we agree. Midway's value was as bait for Nimitz. They had no long term need to stay.
1
That would be incorrect. Many ships, including American had lower deck catapults. And of course all cruisers and battleships had catapults
1
@gregorywright4918 that would be very incorrect. They were used and were included on the first six Essex class carriers. Might want to try that Google again?
1
@gregorywright4918 well the term is including both. but the top of the topic of discussion were hanger catapults.
1
I wish they could have web links on this channel? I have a picture showing a hellcat getting launched off of USS Hornet from its hanger deck.

@colbeausabre8842 what's the point of counting sorties? You're now trying to move the bar of the conversation. They are not supposed to be used for an entire airstrike or anything. Air for launching Scouts and standby alert Fighter for combat Air Patrol.
1
@colbeausabre8842 the point of this thread is to point out that the original poster was incorrect In His assumption. AND since links are disabled, feel free to investigate sorties at 2 AM.

There was an entire live show on Wednesday.
