@WraithMagus Actually, today a sub with drones would be nice to have. Subs have a huge recon and special Ops function. The ability to launch airborne drones, armed or not could be useful.

@luisnunes2010 That's putting tactics over technology. Missiles were in there early stage development by all. And a sub would have to carry dangerous rocket fuel. Missiles on subs needed another 10 years and electronics to really work.

The rare Sub content? The Underwater warrior wearers of the Dolphins 🐬need more love.🐬💕 Can we get a special on Sub Aces like RN Lt. CDR David Wanklyn,VC & DSO?
1
@anondescriptbullet The RN. Next question....
1
@borismekler The leadership of Tojo and the Army make that a non starter.
1
@michelangelobuonarroti4958 1. Yes. 2. USS Saratoga was enroute , but too late for the battle.

@Knight6831 Yes, but think drones......🤔 Nuc subs do a ton of Spec Ops and reconnaissance. The ability to send drones over the beach could be very useful. A SEAL team might like a eye above. Or even with a Hellfire missile. Are we ever getting a Flying Sub like on "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea? " Hmmmm...🤔

@Clank_Clank_Im_a_tank The infamous unit 731 seemed to have like Plague as a weapon. Visit Wikipedia for gory details of Unit 731.

@deaks25 Idea good. Tech bad. Today, drones from subs and Underwater RPV are very useful and possible.
1
@QuizmasterLaw Subs lack the speed to operate with the surface fleet. Thus, Cruiser scout planes and Seaplane tenders.
1
@borismekler Hard to call Tojo, transient.

@hs5312 sure. The Germans were fascinated with huge guns. They developed the Paris gun in World War I. Again large railroad guns were larger than shipboard weapons. There's a diminishing return however going above 16 in. Bigger is not better. Just bigger bulkier, heavier, slower to load.
1
@StoneCresent on that score, regulus was more based on German ideas.
1
@detritus23 Technically? There was another bombing raid. Japan sent balloon bombs
1
@tewsgcdcfgechk908 Coastal defenses make that idea a non starter.
1
@craighagenbruch3800 Everyone pre war tried planes on subs. The USN, RN, and the French sub Surcouf.
1
@benjaminarnold2881 Think drones.....https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidhambling/2020/12/10/us-navys-new-submarine-launched-drone-guides-torpedo-attacks-from-unprecedented-range/?sh=d5184085f196

@PirateofAE2 Yes. The other CV's took in Yorktown planes as a alternative.
1
@tewsgcdcfgechk908 The Canal Zone and West Coast were well defended and patrolled. In the air and at sea. Plus the planes lack payload. Not worth the trip.😏
1
@mcm421mo3 Many wars. From WW2 to the Falklands.
1
@tewsgcdcfgechk908 There were only a handful...
1
@CharlesStearman Well.... Okay. Just trying to use a example off the top of my head.

What is there to test?
1
@averagefilipino315 the US had already experimented with submarine-launched aircraft. As had the British and French.
1
@GaldirEonai Agreed. They made it work.
1
@WraithMagus The Firescout is already small, and autonomous. https://youtu.be/IsUiu6XmrAs
1
@WraithMagus 🤔 .....As in Server 34 Admiral?
1
@WraithMagus set to periscope depth. Raise antennas. Not a big deal.
1
@WraithMagus The ability to do ASW with a sub launched Firescout would be nice.
1
@WraithMagus Well folks above my pay grade and DARPA have solutions to those bugs. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidhambling/2020/12/10/us-navys-new-submarine-launched-drone-guides-torpedo-attacks-from-unprecedented-range/?sh=d5184085f196
