  2. After the attack on the fleet, war exists with Vichy. So, noé4455 change. Japan in the Home Fleet? They are better used in the Indian Ocean vs. German East Africa or support in the later ops in Russia in 1919.

  3.  @armchairwarlord  They resisted the landings in North Africa with force. That makes them the enemy. As for Japan in The Home fleet thing? You have the same issues the ABDA fleet did working together. Makes little sense to send ships to the UK. Instead, those RN units in the Indian Ocean would return home.

  5. While the dream was there, the ability was not. Both were well defended and extreme ranged targets. The Axis tried the whole Desert War to reach Suez by land. By sea? The RN Med fleet at Alexandria is in the way. The Axis faces the same issues in Panama with US forces.

  6. All Navies used the same system. Floatplanes were used to spot and correct long range fire and find targets pre radar. Carriers were designed to scout for the battlefleet. Prior to WW2 they lacked planes and weapons to be a offensive threat.

  7.  @Eulemunin  Until air dropped torpedos and Dive bombing became popular, scouting was the main role for all carriers till 1930. That includes Japan. Carrier planes lacked the speed, range or weapons of land based planes of the era.

  9. Most nations wanted to focus on post war rebuilding. Not fleets for a Cold War. The RN gave and sold many ships to Comonwealth nations like Canada rather than mothball. The USN did the same as well to boost Allies like France and the South American navies.

  11. Does a Carrier help? Yes, but... they were outnumbered and outclassed in the air. The Fulmar could drive off the bombers for a while, but would fall as soon as Zeros appear. The Swordfish would do little to stop the invasion on the ground. FORCE Z like US Asiatic fleet, flee to Java rather than stay in Singapore.

  15. Yes, they are torpedo booms. Nets are hung from the booms to stop torpedos when extended. They were only marginally effective and slowed the ship underway.
