@themanformerlyknownascomme777 the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico most certainly were a security issue.

You could have expanded the training program, but you don't have the Manpower. Even today the population of Canada is only about 39 million. I think the state of California has more people?

@danpower-JP Define major power? Also, Define your Marketplace? The time period That you are looking at has few customers or nations with small Manpower needs. Also not only are you needing a carrier, you require all the support that goes with it. The Royal Navy had ships that were a better fit.

@fidjeenjanrjsnsfh well that's not particularly accurate either. Saying that guns are better than aircraft in utility is not the issue. You have limited customers. And customers with much smaller Manpower. British carriers in general were a better fit.

@1903_Springroll anything that penetrate the submarine hull is going to do damage. As for a high-explosive splash? No more than a depth charge would do so.

@darkstock5103 Speed and Air Superiority. The US had air superiority during the day. The Japanese did their best work running convoys at night. You did not want to have slow-moving battleships any area at first light. Also the waters around that area were difficult to maneuver large ships. So they decide to use ships that could get in the area, do job and get out quickly.

@karldubhe8619 it would probably be easier to send them to America? Let the U.S. Navy train them.
