🙄 So in other words this has nothing to do with the Jonas Brothers? I thought it was named for their mom or something? ⛵

@joshthomas-moore2656 most of the War 1812 kind of fits that definition... And pretty significantly the Korean War. The Navy and Marine Corps basically saved United Nations forces from getting kicked out of Korea by landing at Incheon. Then a few months later , wound up saving them all from North Korea.

@ScrapyardApe I think a lot of it got used in home building?

@SeveralWeezelsInaTrenchcoat Well.... 🤔 They are Green Energy Ships. ⛵ Does it make you a better sailor? It's probably more useful as a teamwork building exercise more than anything else. Most ship jobs are done by specialist today. There's really little need for a lot of the traditional deck working. But I guess if you kind of think about it, it's a bit like teaching someone to use a five-speed manual stick transmission in a World going to electric cars. ⛽⛔

@5chr4pn3ll Well, they Make America's Cup Yachts today that will do 40 Knots. I don't think any sailing shipbuilder back in the day ever imagined something that fast.

@metaknight115 if they can find a ship that would have held up better, I'd like to see it.

@stevevalley7835 your example of the USS Maine is a good one. But, in both cases that would have been a salvage operation for removal. The idea of trying to put this thing back in the service is just out the question. I think simply because of time and money Arizona and the Utah just never got the attention that Oklahoma did.

@fjthatguy9496 well if you believe Google? The word" Marine" is the word for "Sea" in French. Apparently the French would refer to English troops arriving by the sea with that description. That is why they are frequently called soldiers of the sea.

@vikkimcdonough6153 Humpty Dumpty would have had more success by all the king's horses and All the King's Men. There is no chance of spending any amount of resources for return to service. That is just a catastrophic loss. It likely would have been salvaged just like the Oklahoma. However time and money left the Arizona and Utah uncompleted for removal. The ship has just been structurally deformed and weakened in such a massive fashion; that thinking about repair is just not a consideration. This is a vessel that already in 1941 is considered elderly.

@stevevalley7835 I think Arizona and Utah would have been removed like Oklahoma eventually. I think the end of the war just kind of lessened the whole idea to the back burner. The idea of the memorial came much later. I think we'll just have to wait for the anime series, "Space battleship Arizona.... " 🌝
