The need of South American countries to engage in a naval arms race is kind of curious. None of them have any colonial empires or huge Merchant fleets to protect.

@alantrevor3658 what do you picture them doing, that their newer ships could not already do better? Your still limited by access to fuel and access to the Sea. They are still outnumbered and outgunned in a fleet action versus the Royal Navy. And they no longer have overseas territories to protect, that require them to be on distant stations.

@alantrevor3658 Your German surface Raider is going to spend most of the war; suck in port in France, a Fjord in Norway or stuck in the Baltic. Using men and fuel needed by the U-Boats.
