@Norbert_Sattler German aux cruisers were surface Raiders designed to look like cargo ships. They had hide away guns and torpedoes. Most famous was the Kormoran, that fought HMAS Sydney in 1941. The Allies had Q boats with hidden guns too.

@Norbert_Sattler Subs sit low in the water. The biggest radar target is the sail. And the need to retract guns could slow time to crash dive or even fail due to marine life geting caught in the mechanicals.
