They as a Surface Action Group freed up Carriers from other duty. Amphibious forces even today lack fire support. The Harpoon and Tomahawk added range and options for the fleet.

  11.  @jessemarcus  Canada never built most of its ships. And never anything the size of Hood. Their carriers were all ex RN transfers.

  12.  @chrisjohnson4666  There is a thing called fiscal priority. Between a Great Depression, dissarment after WW1, and need fund the other services. Things get back burnered. There is no blank check in defense spending.

  14.  @chrisjohnson4666  Your not looking at this in the context of the time. They just lost a generation in WW1. Nobody wanted war or could afford it. Thus the Washington and London Treaties. The governments in the inter war years did not foresee the threat.
