  2.  @morganolson1657  War warnings were already in progress. The Yangtze River patrol recalled. The 4th Marine Regiment left China for the Philippines days before. PT boats for delivery to the Philippines were at Pearl Harbor as cargo. The carriers were at sea because they were ferrying planes to Midway and Wake Islands. So war prep was underway. They just thought it would be next month and at other targets.

  4. The Seafire was a poor Naval fighter. The P-51 was tested and rejected. Naval aircraft are more than a hook. The Hellcat and Corsair were far better planes for the Fleet air Arm. They made a mistake waiting till the Phantom to buy American again.
