  5. The folks at Grumman would would say, hold up a sec. The Fulmar was not much than a warmed up Fairey Battle turned fighter. The Martlet should have been imported more rather than waste time on the Fulmar, Sea hurricane and Seafire.

And smart weapons means basically building the electronics industry from scratch. 2. The Naval weapons department. Kept up development into the 1990's. They would have extended range and guided rounds. And Nuclear shells were already made by the late 1950's.
