@gumimalac They are booms for torpedo nets. When unfolded, the nets protect the ship from torpedoes.

@samadams2203 They're not apples to apples replacements for Battleships. They also need a long time to train Airgroups.So you have a cost and manpower issue. Carriers are restricted in bad weather and at night ops. They also can not provide Gun fire support. As for the surrender? After years of war and death? The could have had it any place...
