More subs? Needs more hot women and fewer ships. 😏

@Dave_Sisson Quick answers? 1. JAPAN had some left hand island carriers. Why everyone else has it in the right? Most people are right handed, it is just natural. Plus when docking, most ships dock with docks on the right. So to navigate, you place it on the same side. 2. The dual islands on the QE? To separate the navigation functions from the air control functions. To see forward and not run over things call for a forward island. While flight controllers need to be aft to observe the deck. So this design splits the two jobs for efficiency.

@tricap1542 As for the bit about PT burnings at Samar? Cheap solution to a logistic problem. It was cheaper to burn them in Samar. Most boats were judged to be in poor condition. Thus not worthy of placing in reserve. Plus, you need special cradles to haul The boats as cargo long distance.

@goodman4966 Doubtful, but not impossible.

@thedamnyankee1 DC is sort of a hit or miss, learn by events vs. Training thing. Overtime, all sides learned to train sailors for DC as well as form trained DC teams. Also ship designs vary. Kinda hard to make a generalization on who does it better.

@sarchlalaith8836 Pre Radar you could see as far as the horizon. About 20 miles on a clear day. That is why ships have always placed spotters up high in the age of sail.

@sarchlalaith8836 Well larger planes lead to bigger deck carriers, square elevators over t shaped ones, catapult gear, higher speed hulls. Unlike pre Ark Royal ships.

@mattmopar440 All early carriers were kinda of experiments. No common size, design, dockyard or arrangement. As folks built more, by trial & error you learned what worked and what sucked.

@derptank3308 😒 Why should they buy a dated American design, when they had a dozen UK firms making planes of the same quality?
