Question? Just prior to the battle for Coral Sea there was a change of command. Vice Admiral Brown was relieved by Rear Admiral Fitch as head of TF 11 and Lexington. Did this make a difference in outcome?

Not practical.

Those forces were required in the Atlantic. They were to counter the German Forces and back up a depleted home Fleet.

That is pretty much the extent of their power and logistics. Trying to go any further east really doesn't make sense. Just like trying to take Australia doesn't make any more sense.

Disagree. A battleship is a single vessel, in a single spot. It does not provide coverage of an entire task force.

Mostly a matter of availability. And trying to group things by unit. The Philippines were a priority to be reinforced. that's why many of the forces were in Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Everything from PT boats to the b-17s coming from California; were on their way to the Philippines.

Oft hand; that sounds ridiculous.... For some reason, people keep imagining ways to use the main guns for imaginary dual purpose roles. And the low angle of Depression would cause damage to the ship.
