Another long range projectile issue to factor is the, "Coriolis effect." Depending on hemisphere, a projectile will drift right or left due to Earth rotation.

@johnshepherd8687 A bit...😉 To be honest, the Fulmar is a Fairey Battle with guns. Okay, for a lumbering Fw-200 patrol plane. But a dog for any thing with a pulse....

@davidandmartinealbon3155 one could make a serious argument that's what happened to U-boats. To counter aerial attack threats; U-boats were refitted with more flak cannons. This was actually a regression in performance. The additional guns retarded underwater speed and made noise which could be detected. Thus making them more vulnerable. That seems to meet the criteria of your question.

@0Fingolfin0 Those small weapons are penetrating Hull plating. Not the armor belt.

@alexadamson9959 Basically are there Richard Sharpe stories in the Navies?🤔...... Admiral Farragut of the USN sort of fits. Midshipman at age 9. Prize master at 12. Made Admiral and served 60 years and into the US Civil war. As for anyone going from Seaman to CNO? Try the late Admiral Jeremy Boorda USN. The 25th CNO 1994 to 1996.

@FazCraft Yes..... The US Army and Navy have developed both guided and extended range Artillery. A Example is the 155mm Excalibur round for the Army. Able to hit targets at 40 miles. Such a weapon was to arm the DDG -1000 Zumwalt class. But canceled due to costs.

@galbert117 you've asked a what-if question with so many variables; you could spin the bottle and get a number of answers.

Two week trip? Or... "Harold, Kumar, and Drach go to White Castle."🍔😷 Just avoid the dumpster fire called, Spirit Airlines. The Ghost of passengers are still waiting for baggage.😒✈️

Short answer? Yes. Previous command was not needed. Promotion was not based solely on merit.

@0Fingolfin0 it means exactly what it says. The ships' armor is designed to defend against the same type of projectiles as it's using.

@TheKingofbrooklin The treaty fails then. Naval arms race begins.

@readhistory2023 I think what you're trying to ask is whether or not radar rangefinding was any better than optical range finding? The calculations in order to land a projectile don't really change. And as you noted there are computers to help make the necessary calculations. Radar is able to make that estimation in all weather and at night. It provides a confirmation of a optical results.

@Rammstein0963. Headscratch....🤔 If Germany is a ally, who is the enemy? And Germany lost its overseas territory. Where's the need for the Navy your dreaming? Capital ships are for power projection.

@michaelmacleod7051 The graveyards of 1918 are not going anywhere.

@DeCasoU1 No amount of power is turning the Fulmar into a fighter to fear.
