  8. For the same reasons all navies and merchant ships dropped it. (1) Oil is easier to store as a liquid. (2) Burns cleaner with less ash clean. (3)Used less manpower. Loading and stoking is very intensive in manpower. (4) with oil, you can refuel at sea underway. No need to dock. All modern navies use support ships to refuel, rearm and fill stores underway. Coaling had to be done in Port.
