  1. 🙆🏽‍♂️Whoah....... you are correct, this was quite a significant day in history. Almost all of these are worthy of a episode on their own. And the whole episode of Hawaii and US Empire expansion is a greatly overlooked bit of History. Most people remember the Spanish-American War and events in Cuba. But everything that comes after and are current list of territories have largely been forgotten. Few people know why there is an American Samoa or why we have Puerto Rico? And why there was the last stand at Wake Island.... and it all goes back to January 17th. As a aside.... if Captain Cook only reached the Antarctic Circle, who gets credit for discovering Antarctica?🤔☃️🐧
