Passenger rail is not economical or makes sense today. People no longer need to reach a Central City location. And once you get there, are you going to walk?

@RCAvhstape I live in Philadelphia. AMTRAK has never made a profit ever... over 50 years. The railroads are better at cargo than passenger travel. The Corridor is not much faster or cheaper than taking a bus up I-95. The USA is not as compact as Japan or France and their high speed rail network.

@thetrainhopper8992 We gave 50 years of experience it does not happen. The railroads are better at freight than passenger travel. You can hop a Chinatown bus and be in NYC cheaper and not much slower. Ideas of dumping money into A San Francisco to L.A. line are money losers.

@Wolfshead009 Airplanes don't get stuck in snow for hours. Passenger rail is like wishing for Atlantic Liners to come back.

@MrSloika on the contrary, passenger rail was in place prior to Amtrak. That Northeast quarter was taken up by the New York Central and Pennsylvania railroads. They gave up on passenger rail 50 years ago. Interstate 95 has kind of made rail less competitive on that same route. While cheaper than flying, you can take New Jersey Transit for probably less money. Same thing with the bus travel. Hi speed service is never going to be popular like it is in Japan or Europe. I think Amtrak only survives due to many in NYC not being able to afford or have a spot to park a car. Other than Joe Biden And railroad fans, this is just a money black hole.
