  2. It got me thinking, " Why did this film not be a bigger hit?" It came out Dec. 14, 1979. Same week as Steve Martin's, "The Jerk." But the big film that month was the First Star Trek movie. And for the serious crowd, "Kramer vs. Kramer" came out the week after. Still "1941" was the 25th biggest film of the year.

  7. Speaking of Pearl Harbor and subs... Most forget there was a combined midget sub attack on the harbor that day. It's one of those subs the destroyer Ward sinks prior to the air raid. At least one sub is thought to have hit the USS West Virginia with torpedos.

  11. Your half right..... Except they were paratroopers. The 555 parachute battalion, was a all black airborne unit. They we're used as smokejumpers to put out fires started by the balloons.

  26.  @nevyen149  I was trying to remember why this film was not bigger? While most of the films were lame that month, "Star Trek, the movie" came out the week before. That made all the box office. Even Steve Martin's the "The Jerk" came out the same weekend.
