  2. Too a degree, there has not been a real Amphibious beach attack since Inchon in 1950. Heavy gear can't be carried by air. And once on land, walking is a lousy way to move troops. Taking a port? The Deippe Raid in 1942 the example of that approach. Easier to attack where defense is less built up.
