The Black Swan of death!
8
@CorePathway you don't understand aircraft production. It's not a single Factory or manufacturer. It is hundreds of subcontractors.
5
Not true.
4
That's the same dumb thinking we made 70 years ago about Japan. People in other nations go to engineering schools too. 😏
3
dual-engine argument really does not hold up in practice. If you have enough battle damage to lose an engine; you're most likely going to be losing Hydraulics and fuel as well. I don't see any more twin engine survivability over single. You get hit with a sidewinder, the plane is going down.
3
Uh, no..... There are many reasons the Navy and Marine Corps have passed on it. Never had any overseas sales either. It's also basically a 50-year-old airplane design.
2
@adamc6371 there is far more to carrier aircraft than just sticking a hook on an airplane. Angle of attack takeoff and Landing speed are very critical.Stealth materials and sea water don't mix either.
2
@kathrynck The missile issue is a problem. The AIM-120 is getting out ranged by the competition. But Boeing is really getting a bailout. The 737 max fail has set them back for years. This busy work is a lifeline of cash.
2
Huge fan of the Wingman series.
2
Not true at all.
2
@ronaldschoolcraft8654 Not saying you were. To say they cannot compete is a bit of hyperbole.
2
@puellamservumaddominum6180 Garbage? That is what is selling today. Folks Want the F-35.
2
@puellamservumaddominum6180 Lot of defense cuts coming to all branches...
2
@ReviveHF F-35 sales are hot. The Swiss just bought the 35 to replace their Hornets.
2
@valenrn8657 Okay, what does roll rate prove in BVR fights?
2
We're not fighting the Battle of Britain over again. We're not even fighting Mig alley over again.
2
@tedwojtasik8781 Boyd is wrong in his conclusions.
2
@tedwojtasik8781 actually, they are the result of very different design programs. And his contribution is Limited at best. And despite all this Fanboy love, nobody wanted the F20. Then or now. And it's trying to refight Wars of three Wars ago. Aircraft weapons and tactics have moved on.
2
Uh, no....
1
It's not so much a great move. It's more of a support package for Boeing.
1
F-35'S are being sold to several Nations.
1
Mock.... And who says they have a kill rate that high?
1
The Super Hornet is what they settled for.
1
@Whiskey11Gaming Well said..... the best thing you can say about the hornet? Jack of all trades, master of none....
1
@valenrn8657 Angle of attack feature?
1
@CheddarBro Narrow view. Many nations want the B model.
1
@CheddarBro Everyone wants it. That is why it is selling.
1
@Cocandre Sorry, but disagree on that assessment.
1
A proximity hit rather than contact. The Guy was lucky that day. Engine tech has come a long way. Nobody would built a 8 engine B-52 today as a example. There is parity between duals and single jets today.
1
@classicgalactica5879 Your fighting with tactics of 2 to 3 wars ago vs. BVR missiles , data networks, IR sensors and stealth. There's more than manuver in 5th an 6th generation jets.
1
Aircraft production doesn't work that way. There are too many subcontractors and outsourced parts.
1
The USN had entirely separate stealth programs.
1
Yes and No. The 2 engine thing is a bit of a myth. There has been a long line of single engine fighters. Engine failures are rare. And damage to cause a loss, likely means it is not survivable.
1
@xris5697 Again, it is not 1960 anymore. Jet failure is rare. Trying to land one one engine is a risky thing.
1
Not really.
1
Nope
1
@zetazane but.... they are handy for days like this.....https://youtu.be/UY4aHderZss
