  1. They used to. The M45a1 is the weapon your referring too. It got dumped after a few years of use. As for your Grandfather's comments? He was half right. All pistols used were built in WW2. And rebuilt over the next 40 years. They also were G.I. spec guns. NOT improved commercial models with better sights, wide ejection ports, beavertail safeties, etc.

  11.  Mika Kalashnikov  You misunderstand the concept here. With the Sig, one gun can change Both size and Caliber with a single fire control system. Not buy 9 different models of Glock to do the same thing.

  14.  @PHEONYX79  Drew, the 1911 is a fan boy gun today. No military uses them still. Police departments don't issue them for duty. And Fed agents like the FBI, Secret Service, and Marshals don't issue them. As for a waste of money? The supply is 30 years old and seen use in 2 wars. Many need a pistol. Aviation crew, medics and Medical personnel. Crew served weapons users. Snipers. Etc.
