What's Going on With Shipping?

Why would that be an issue for you? The reasons for placement of the bridge, is probably also a reason to run the line. You have to take in the topography as well as the sub surface conditions.

Everything you buy or use involves Logistics and shipping. Things don't magically arrive at a supermarket or Amazon.

@MarcosElMalo2 🧚♀️ She imported them from Chile....

That's not a logical solution. You already have an existing roadway and topography that resulted in the decision to build a bridge. Any tunnel you build would have to go well below the shipping channel. The other reason for the bridge is that the existing I-95 tunnel cannot take hazardous materials and oversized loads. Thus loads take I-695.

Ship systems don't work that way.

Maritime law is not exactly weaseling.

Most bridges do not have additional underwater protection. And ships of this size or larger were not in use when the bridge was built. Maintenance and retrofitting are under the purview of the State Department of Transportation. Which I'm sure like most State departments have a backlog of projects. They were doing deck work on the bridge at the time of the accident.

Apparently, repairs were done in Port. Were those repairs incomplete? Who signed off on them? Were they related to failure? That will come during the investigation.
2
As I read the report, they are in charge of parts of the Salvage operation. They don't have the overall Authority.

You're not going to bankrupt the insurance company. And the law limits their liability. And the President has already to pledged to cover most of the bill. It's like asking United Airlines and American Airlines to pay for 9/11.
1
I don't think the insurance company is going to be covering that much? Admiralty law and the amount of coverage are going to come into play.
1
Insurance is not going to be able to cover the full cost of this. Just like 9/11.
1
You are making the Assumption they have an emergency steering area? And their Transit was not anything unusual.
1
The City of Baltimore is not responsible for the bridge or its operation.
1
They have to carry out the day-to-day operations of the vessel still. Just like an airliner crew. I would be more worried about their legal protections and access to counsel however. I'm quite sure for now advice is to stay on board and to remain silent.
1
@vickiehow- the ship's engines and generators are back online.
1
Absolutely not.
1
I don't believe that so?
1
What purpose would those cranes be for?
1
@Jennifermcintyre The Dock Workers have no real knowledge of what was repaired or who did the repairs. And until the investigation, we don't know if there was a connection?
1
Any Underground or underwater utilities would be below the bottom. The cargo will likely have to be removed if the ship requires repair.
1
Most major Bridges do not have any additional protections. The situations are rare. And there are other roadways and bridges with a higher priority.
1
And trying to hold the pilot responsible is also not going to fly. You can't control something without power.
1
Most of this is going to be on the taxpayers. It's already been declared a disaster. And the President has already pledged to pay most of the bill.
1
They do not have overall control over the operation. You have different companies taking care of different parts of the project. The Army Corps is responsible for removing hazards to navigation. The transportation department for the state of Maryland is worrying about getting 695 back together. And Salvage of the ship and getting it freed is a whole issue separate from their responsibility.
