What's Going on With Shipping?

We still have a long road.....🌉

The crew is still needed to carry on daily operation of the vessel. They are required to man all their systems. They are also required to stay because there's an ongoing investigation. They also do not have visas to enter the United States and thus do not have shore leave.
3
The ship has been ballasted with water up forward to keep it from moving. When they are ready, they will pump out the water.
2
The official NTSB report typically takes a year. There should be a preliminary report soon.
2
Do you seriously think that dolphin can withstand the force the ship did? It's not a magic force field.
2
Eventually it will be scrapped. Chances of this thing ever returning to service are pretty low.
2
There is no signs of any sabotage. And it's already an FBI investigation.
2
Because the cranes needed to remove the containers are back at the Docks.
2
It worked very well indeed. The idea is to break everything into bite-size pieces for Salvage. That was accomplished.
1
Actually, there are reportedly stolen cars in some of the damaged containers.
1
@raitchison Well, my Major was General Engineering Technology. Temple Univ.👷🏽♂️🦉
1
Anything which represents an underwater obstacle will be removed.
1
You can't apply one incident to every location.
1
Life goes on, traffic goes on...
1
That is a combination of both damaged and additional ballast which was added to keep it from moving. As the Salvage goes on, that will be pumped out. Then they will have to unload the cargo. Then drydock for emergency repair.
1
Again, this is pointless.... a random horn 1:00 in the morning would have done absolutely nothing. The road crew can't see the ship. Have no idea what that horn Means versus the other ships that go by every day. And it's not like they're going to run to the traffic cone or something.
1
@EIGYRO no one on a bridge cares what a ship's horn does in a harbor full of ships; at 1:00 in the morning. There are ships and docks all the way back to the City Waterfront. Your random horn blowing at 1:00 in the morning has zero meaning to anyone. The only thing that mattered ; was the radio call/ telephone call To the toll bridge workers. Your trying to portray this is like it's an air raid siren or something? And they can't even see the darn ship.
1
Yes , they added ballast.
1
Real life is not an animation.
1
What is with the tunnel people? No, we have an existing Interstate to connect to. Not to mention a 50-foot Ship Channel you'd want to build underneath? Nor can you run the Hazmat material through the existing tunnel. Which is why the bridge was built in the first place. All that truck traffic is now having to go the I-95 tunnel or go North all way around Baltimore.
1
There is ballast water up forward keeping the ship from moving.
1
The crew has never left. They are still on duty. And to properly remove the containers, requires the use of the docks And Dockside cranes.
1
Reports yesterday said that ballast water was added to weigh down the bow.
1
They are having to reroute to the Harbor tunnel or take the northern route around Baltimore.
1
The charges were where they were needed.
1
It'll be patched to be scrapped. There are dry docks nearby and on the East Coast. And then it's probably a one-way trip to the breakers. The chances of this thing getting back into regular service are probably zero.
1
The value of the ship and cargo won't pay for this operation. You don't think the airlines American & United paid for the World Trade Center /Pentagon do you?
1
There is no evidence of a problem with fuel. And no other ships have been found to have problem fuel.
1
Didn't look that big?
1
We have a more bigger problem of trucks destroying bridges on I-95 than we do ships running into things.
1
You don't require locks here. There is no significant elevation change Or sea level.
1
I've seen at least two or three cars.
1
The idea was the break everything into bite-size pieces. So they accomplished that mission.
1
You are still looking at it. what do you think of four-lane highway is?
1
Because... real life is not a animation?😏
1
The Forward compartments are flooded to keep it from moving.
1
Perhaps you should leave the back seat Salvage work to the professionals?
1
There are several tons of water ballast in the Forward part of the ship.
1
The crew is necessary to carry out the daily operation of the vessel. The crew is also part of an ongoing investigation. The crew also do not have visas to enter the United States.
1
Investigation is still ongoing.
1
Eventually....
1
I think you need to watch more Turner Classic Movies...
1
Yes
1
I would worry a lot more about tractor trailers taking out overpasses than ships. Interstate I-95 has been closed three times in a year now due to problems with tractor trailers.
1
@Steve-Richter The City of Baltimore is not the responsible party. And nor is there any evidence that any great force field, dolphin or anything else would have prevented this kind of damage. It would have ran right over the darn dolphin. There is a limit to what you can design for. And there are ships much bigger than Dali.
1
@Steve-Richter the design for a replacement Bridge is already underway.👷🏽♂️👷♀️📐🔧🔩📎
1
Insurance has already paid off the claims of stolen vehicles.
1
Depends if they have night vision?
1
Because the Forward compartments are weighted down with water.
1
Not significantly. It's still in the mud.
1
Are you willing to pay the price? Just replacing old water mains takes decades. When I worked at PennDOT, we had a 7-year backlog of repair projects of regular Bridges and Roads. That have nothing to do with ships. We still haven't taken care of the problem of I-95 and trucks blowing up or just running into things.
1
The ship will be patched up and repaired and eventually scrapped. It's very unlikely they are going to return it to full service.
