Very few Navies can recruit and retain nuclear power trained crew. Nuclear power school graduates do not grow on trees.

@beeble2003 well you have tried that now for over a year-and-a-half. That is not a goal Ukraine can achieve on the field of battle.
2
It's not an option. You can't afford and train nuclear-capable crew.
1
@tissuepaper9962 U.S. government has nothing to do with it. Germany, Japan and Russia have tried nuclear-powered ships. Only the Russian icebreakers would be considered marginally successful. And keeping them us maintained at the moment is a struggle.

@michaelhowell2541 Mersk and MSC are not Navies. They don't have taxpayers paying their bills.

The problem is, who is that impartial party that can talk these side down? Nobody in the EU? Certainly not the Americans?🤷🏽♂️

@ericsarellana3358 actually , we don't. And there been many stories complaining that U.S. military Reserve supplies are being depleted and are not easily replaced. Nor is funding to Ukraine an Endless checkbook. I don't recall any declaration of war? 100 billion dollars plus in a year-and-a-half it's getting to ridiculous levels. Now if Woodrow Wilson 2.0 has his way, we are being drawn closer and closer into active hostilities. As if situations in the Persian Gulf, Korean peninsula and South China Sea we're not already headaches? Russia has already decided it will fight a war attrition. Fighting to the last Ukrainian is not a particularly good option.

@HAL_9001 Crimea is not even up for discussion. Ukraine is not getting it back. And the people do not want to go back. I think Eastern Ukraine is up for discussion. The region in dispute has wanted to separate for years. Dumping another billion dollars in arms is not the solution.
1
@HAL_9001 the International Community has already decided. It's not even a topic of discussion. Crimea is not even on the table at all.
1
@HAL_9001 calling Ukraine a democracy is questionable at best.

There is no carbon emission.
1
@tissuepaper9962 I believe my comment referred to carbon emission.

@purplerunner1715 on the contrary we have almost 80 years of experience worldwide. With only a handful of actual problems. It doesn't require long transport by tankers or Pipelines. A small amount of nuclear fuel can last well over a decade. It's not dependent on time of day, blowing wind or Supply trains.
1
You should be focused on going in the other direction. Brokering a settlement.
1
@tissuepaper9962 that approach is doomed to fail.
1
@tissuepaper9962 political realities an historical fact sort of support my view.
1
🤷🏽♂️ where is all the Canadian grain and American grain going?
1
@jilbertb I suppose it's all going into people's gas tanks as ethanol?

Nuclear power in container ships is probably a non-starter. That's a very highly specialized labor cost. Only a handful of the World's navies can train and retain such crew.
1
@tissuepaper9962 nuclear power school graduates don't grow on trees. And they're not cheap. That's a non-starter before you even get into the whole technical parts of nuclear power. About the only place that does make sense is with Russian icebreakers. And they have trouble maintaining those now.
