  3. That's a little bit of a pipe dream and not a fast one. NATO has mostly been us. The Royal Navy and French Navy don't even have close to the numbers or capability. Nor do they have the bases. The Royal Navy of today is barely 100 ships. They can't even operate two aircraft carriers at the same time.

  6. You are not going to change the volume that a ship can carry versus trains. A cargo vessel can carry far more than a freight train. Train operators also are limited in the number of hours they can operate.

  11.  @almirria6753  debated, I do not think so. We have more ships and capability than the next three navies combined. The Royal Navy is a joke that barely has 100 ships. They can't even operate both carriers at once. And the French navy has basically bought one ship to the party. The Indian Navy are doing their own thing.

  12.  @almirria6753  I follow these issues. And yes. The US Navy is desperately behind in maintenance. Is lagging behind in recruiting. Has to keep firing ship captains. And faces budget issues. And yet, we still are more capable than all of the above listed forces. Are we overstretched? To a certain degree. But we decided a few decades ago we wanted to be a World power. And since World War II, have filled the void left by the end of the British Empire.

They are also very stretched logistically to be operating that far from home. China has decided to be selective in the use of it's power. Should the United States go back to being more of a pre-1900 isolationist Stand? That's for the people to decide politically.

  21. The United Nations doesn't have a Navy. And the United States Navy dwarfs everyone else's . We have taken the role of being World Sea Cop.👮🏻‍♀️👮🏼‍♂️⚓ nobody else has the numbers or capability.

  22.  @taylorclear-g8z  I don't have the current numbers, but very few vessels in international trade fly the American flag anymore. They are almost generally Coastal traffic, going to Hawaii or Alaska. Or servicing Caribbean locations like Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. None of the major cruise lines for example other than US Cruise Lines do so. But protecting the traffic is still in our interests. We do business with these companies. we own these companies. the cargo is coming to the United States. It's an all interconnected Nexus of trade. And the loss of ships or cargo effects prices on Commodities worldwide.

  23.  @raifsevrence  We are not turning the World back 80 years. You may wish to work in a widget Factory ? But most of us in the World are not. The Rust Belt is not coming back. No one is buying a Philco TV, a RCA radio , buying a AMC car or a Kodak camera. American business is based on the economy of 2024. And that doesn't include manufacturing consumer products. And the consumer is not going to sit back and be told you can only buy a Ford, Chevy or Chrysler. Nor is anyone going to go back to working in a Garment Factory at $15/hr. No one's going to be able to afford the clothes they produce. And we're not going to go back to an Era of Agriculture where you only buy produce in Spring and Summer. People like to buy produce in the middle of February. Which is why you can buy things from other nations like Chilean fruit or a French wine. Pittsburgh is never going back to the days of giant steel plants. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania now has a casino. The Kaiser shipyards are no more.

  28.  @taylorclear-g8z  we are not going back to a foreign policy of the United States basically has interests that stops at the 12 mile limit. We are not going turning the clock back to a pre William McKinley era of isolationism. We have stuck our foot all over the globe. Which is why we have reservists getting blown the bits in a barracks in the middle of the desert on the borders of Syria. It's why the Coast Guard does more than just watch the coast anymore .
