The problem is Congress is not doing budgets. They've been living off continuing resolutions.

@Hobbyblasphemist they don't have a lot of spare nuclear people. It Is probably one of the hardest schools to fill. People think SEALS are hard to find.

@flinch622 Going back to DOT is not a improvement. That agency is just as screwed up under current leadership.

Not with a backlog of subs needing repair....

Well, more jobs on the Island would be nice....But, they need a reliable power company first.
3
Hunter has more friends in Ukraine then the Coast Guard does.

Empires do come and go. The 21st century is not the American Century.
2
You need to be able to sustain a shipyard long-term. That requires other contracts.
2
Sadly, Congress keeps doing Continuing Resolutions. Not real budget making. They need more advocates on Capitol Hill.
2
It would be more correct to say our Industries have changed. Our economy is not based on industries of 80 years ago.
2
Major problem with that one. There are no nuclear trained Coast Guard people.
2
Hollywood fantasy.

They are not friends.
1
You have to blame yourselves on that one. Canadian defense spending has always been a low priority.
1
Your solution is to build a 50 year old worn out design they can't maintain? Not a plan. That wouldn't even meet the EPA regulations for a start.
1
@fountainvalley100 if that was the simple answer, we would have done it 30 years ago.
1
Many would say they need less asbestos in schools or potholes fixed on I-95; than an icebreaker.
1
@DM-mv4eq which doesn't mean very much when your force can not deploy.
1
@petermcguire8260 that's why up in Canada they have Iceberg Vodka. Made with real Iceberg water.
1
How is that supposed to work exactly? They don't have the personnel, the infrastructure or the defense spending to maintain what are essentially 50 year old vessels. The stuff you're talking about is already at the end of its working life. And you need trained personnel and infrastructure to work a nuclear submarine or aircraft carrier.
1
@nigeriaroberts678 the entire Australian Navy has had two officers trained so far. For nuclear submarine Duty. They yet to have even started the infrastructure to maintain the submarines that we are supposed to be getting. These are long-term plans and we don't even know what the next administrations are going to look like.
1
Canadian defense spending is even worse.
1
Russia is a cluster right now....
1
And what great country do you reside?
1
The submarine force is in need of repair or replacement. Some actually waiting years.
1
Yes, we do need them. We have interest in both polar regions. That's essentially the situation now. We don't have what is needed to do the job. 50 year old ships don't cut it.
