A submarine surfacing through the ice is not an icebreaker. It may look to the Layman that way. But using a submarine to pop through a foot or two of ice; is not the same as taking an icebreaker through an ice field...

First of all is expense and lack of personnel. There's not a ton of nuclear trained Sailors out there. It's a harder to fill job than the SEALS. Just think about what it takes to go through nuclear Power School? Nor does the Coast Guard have the infrastructure. They can't maintain a regularly conventional powered craft. Now you want them to take care of marine nuclear reactor?

Not really.... it affects US business interests as much as anyone else. And for the 9999 time, Egypt is not equipped to do anything more than we have done. Nor is it politically in a position to do so. And you've already seen since last October how much the Europeans are going to chip in here. None of them have thrown an aircraft carrier into the mix. The British are hard-pressed to send aircraft all the way from Cyprus to do anything. The French are doing their own independent Convoy. India is doing its own independent thing as well.

@williamchauncey8100 It is rather doubtful. The so-called Red Wave is not there. Trump may have votes. The polls don't show that carrying on Down the Line. Chances of the Republicans holding the House and flipping the Senate are slim. So despite all of his promises, very little is going to get done. An opposition filled Congress with a lame duck president.

Rail is always going to be superior to trucking.

@jastrapper190 only been to Montreal once. But a train can carry far more cargo than any load of trucks. And as you say yourself, the road networks up there are lousy. People use ships because of volume. You use rail because of volume. Trucks are the last end of the supply chain.
