I think Trump was the bigger gangster down there than Scarfo ever was.

It's been awhile since I've been down there. The basic problem is that Atlantic City lost their Monopoly has the East Coast gambling center. They used to be the Las Vegas of East Coast. That is how Trump made his money. Over the decades gambling has expanded. First to Indian casinos. Then to other states. And now online gambling is the big rage. People can sit on their computer and Gamble or bet on sports. There's no reason to go and stay in the Atlantic city hotels anymore. So even the elderly who used to take bus trips, have declined. The beach is still a decent place to visit. And unlike most of New Jersey , is actually free.

@MbisonBalrog unlike Las Vegas, they never ran the casinos. They were all corporate. The Mob on the Atlantic City were more interested in things like the supply ends and the unions.

@jontalbot1 He made his money and left mess in his wake. Yes, I'm aware.

It's been a few years since I've been to Atlantic City. Overall, I would agree with most of the conclusions. Casino gambling certainly revitalized the city. However, once they lost the East Coast Monopoly on gambling; gamblers had other options to go to. First it was Indian casinos. Then other states started opening gambling. Now online gambling has become The Big industry. Atlantic City no longer is the sole place East of the Mississippi to go to. It's always had political problems and corruption. I find a notable no one happened to mention the Donald Trump influence? He was once a major part of Atlantic City. And led to his wealth empire. Now he has zero casinos there. It's still a affordable place for a Beach visit. It's one of the few towns in New Jersey that doesn't charge people to use the beach. 🏖️

Actually, it's a little rough being a Hooters Employee. Many chain restaurants are closing locations. People have not returned to restaurant dining post-pandemic. An inflation has made restaurant dining unaffordable. This is made it very difficult for the restaurant industry. Location closures are happening for Hooters , just like many other restaurants right now.

@UziMusic Right now, the company is trying to stay in business. Just like many other chain restaurants there looking at closing locations. Restaurant users have not come back since the pandemic. And inflation has not helped.

I would disagree, in that most of South Jersey beach towns are kind of crappy. Limited tax base. Living off of beach tag fees. Seasonal businesses.

@Ira88881 Yeah, I do disagree.

@MbisonBalrog the Philadelphia and New York mobs were falling apart by the 90s.

There's not much of a Middle left anymore. Would Atlantic City lost their Monopoly on East Coast gambling. Things started going downhill. It is kind of strange that Donald Trump's name never came up in any of the conversation? He milked it dry. Travel has made other destinations possible. You can take a cheap flight to the Bahamas or the Dominican now. And nobody down there charges a beach tag. 🏖️

@MbisonBalrog I think you missed the point where I said they had a monopoly on the business. From about 1978 for a good 25 years.

@kevinbrown-ge6sz Would you dispute we have a huge homeless population? And many of them are vets?

@kevinbrown-ge6sz Which makes him eligible to run for President in 2024.🙄
