It does sound that way. And that project is still up in the air.

If you do a quick YouTube search about Greyhound, you'll find similar situations going on in other cities. They seem to be divesting of large fixed terminal locations. Plus you need a location that can take high-volume bus traffic. It would have been nice if they'd had taken the parking lot at 8th and Market.

Apparently the old station property has been acquired as part of the 76ers proposed Arena project.

Police Headquarters has already moved out of The Roundhouse actually. Police Headquarters is now at the old Inquirer building on Broad Street.
3
Well now you're talkin about locating in a completely different part of the city. At least in Center City people have access to SEPTA and PATCO.
2
Actually, it appears Greyhound has been acquired by another bus company.
2
You're right across the street from the federal building and a block away from the Liberty Bell. It's not a high crime area.
2
What part of approve are you talking about? They apparently didn't want to spend money on new construction. And the old property has been bought apparently by the 76ers organization as part of the Arena project.
2
@garyjoynes2125 it's not a city problem. The entire industry is heading in the same direction. Greyhounds getting rid of terminals Nationwide.

Hopefully, David Oh can count on your vote?

The 76ers have bought the property of the Greyhound station for proposed Downtown Arena.
1
Apparently the 76ers organization already has.
1
So Greyhound is no more as a company? And the property is going to be developed.
1
The Greyhound bus station at 10th and Filbert got sold. The 76ers basketball team wants to build an arena there.
1
That seems to be the company and Industry trend. None of the competing bus companies have large fixed terminals.
1
A good example is the Rival BoltBus. They are located near 30th Street Station.
1
It's a block away actually.
1
This does not appear to be an isolated thing. The company seems to be moving away from a terminal type setup.
1
@yvonneplant9434 the 76ers basketball team has purchased the property of the old Greyhound station. The 76ers wish to build a new arena in Center City.
1
@Tigerwarhawk well in this case, politics has little to do with the corporate policy of Greyhound. Greyhound is closing and getting rid of terminals Nationwide. So it's not really a Republican or Democrat thing.
1
@Tigerwarhawk but your post was criticizing politicians?

Why locate in Center City? You need large Street capable of handling bus traffic. You also have connections to nearby public transit with SEPTA and PATCO. At 8th and Market you have the subway station that will take you to the PATCO line, SEPTA Market Frankford EL or Broad street Line Ridge Avenue spur. They also seem to be following a pattern of getting rid of large pieces of Real Estate. They'd rather go follow the competition and not having a large fixed terminal facility. And going to a bus stop only and ticket office. None of their competition have large Depots and waiting areas.
