Yes and no. The company does not wish to have terminals anymore. So it's not like they're going to build a new one. Also you're limited traffic-wise two large streets for the buses to operate on. It would have been nice for them to have taking the parking lot operation at 8th and Market instead. At least you'd have folks in a confined space. And the buses would be in the same space. And you would be closer to facilities across the street at the Fashion District.

To be fair, this is a industry problem rather than a Philadelphia one. They are closing terminals Nationwide. You have similar issues in many other cities. The bus companies have going to the practice of having only a ticket office and bus stop. So if you look at YouTube about Greyhound and other cities. You'll find somewhere complaints and odd stop locations.

This is actually a industry decision rather than a political one. Greyhound is getting rid of terminals Nationwide. You have them going to a bus stop only situation just like their competitors.
2
@yvonneplant9434 this is a corporate decision rather than a political one. Greyhound is divesting of terminals Nationwide.

It's a combination of two separate things. Problem 1? The lease agreement on the property ended. And the property has been acquired by the 76ers basketball team to build a new Downtown Arena. Problem number two? Greyhound is getting rid of terminals Nationwide. Not just in Philadelphia. They're following an industry practice of only having bus stops and ticketoffices. You have similar situations and complaints in cities Nationwide.
2
The industry as a whole does not have large terminal facilities anymore. So Greyhound is closing all of them Nationwide. Trying to be more like their bus competition.
2
@yvonneplant9434 in today's America, I'm not sure there is a middle class any more? Most of them however seem to be the people making angry airplane travel videos.
2
The 76ers basketball team has acquired the property with plans to build a new Downtown Arena. Also Nationwide, Greyhound is getting rid of terminals altogether. Other cities have seen the same kind of issues. Services are now bus stops only.
2
That's just it, they don't want new terminals. Greyhound as a company are getting rid of terminals Nationwide. They want to go to a bus stop only model. Just like the rest of their competition.
2
@dooki3face this one is really not a city problem. Greyhound as a company are shutting terminals Nationwide.
2
@NopeNotToday434 it's still the management following the trend of the industry.

What is different about Baltimore?

@virtualwhispers what is the government supposed to do? None of the competitor bus companies have terminals anymore.
1
@virtualwhispers unfortunately, the bus companies find it just cheaper to go to a bus stop service and ticket office. They'd rather not have the additional employees and real estate of a terminal. I do agree it's not the most best situation for travelers. Exacerbating the situation is that the property of the old terminal is being sold.

Why would you want to oppress the people of Chinatown anymore? They put up with enough development in the last 50 years. To no benefit. And it's only because of the lack of political power that they get dumped on. They are Boxed In by an expressway nobody else wanted. A Convention Center which is generally empty. The Gallery mall now call Fashion District. And a federal prison just a few blocks away. So backoff the people of Chinatown.
1
The short answer to your question is, they are following the same Trend as the other bus companies in the industry. They're getting rid of large Terminals and going to a bus stop only and ticket office model. The same situation is occurring Nationwide in other cities. Also the lease on the property of the old location was up. That property is already been sold to the 76ers.
1
The problem is, they don't wish to build a new terminal. None of their computing bus companies do so. They're all going to a bus stop model and a ticket only office. You have the exact same situation and many cities across the u.s. and the same complaints.

The city is not at fault on this one.
