  6.  @yvonneplant9434  it's more likely that river sediment has built up under the ship for the last 30 years. Since the ship has not moved, they not been able to dredge that spot.

  11.  @ninob.  we all understand the sentimentality. But they've been pitching the same tune for 30 years. And there are far more historically valuable projects just right up the river... the USS New Jersey and USS Olympia are in Far More need of funding and care. And has greater historical value.

  12.  @ninob.  There have been 30 years of plans for the ship. And none of them have worked out. They don't have the money to even move the damn thing let alone renovate.

  13.  @Pussysmoker  I understand the sentimentality. Personally a naval history fan. But we have plenty of other ships in the area in need of this kind of attention and financial support. Both the USS Olympia and USS New Jersey are far more historically important and relevant. And both require repair and public support. It's just time to end the misery of the SS United States.

  15.  @gregmerritt4278  also by sitting in that space, means nobody else can use it. Which makes use of the adjoining Warehouse unusable for cargo. So the owners are putting up with this at a loss theoretically.
