  8. First, they were being taken out of active service by the Mid 1960's. Next, you needed 2 hands to work the launcher. Same for medics or Machine gunners. Thus they carried a pistol for close defense.

  9.  @Grunt_007  The Garand and Carbine have no common design, history or role. Being both made by Winchester is about it. The M-14 and Ruger are not family. The M-16 rifle and M-4 carbine do have shared DNA and system design.
