  1. My first instinct is that it's not necessarily a bad thing; people learn that they need something different from a relationship and build up the courage to look for that. Maybe they stayed for so long because of codependency, or because society tells us marriage should last forever. Maybe they just needed time to figure themselves out, or the two people are simply different people after all that time
