@Dendarang EU- is more appropriate than EU+. Iceland is, after all, a pay-but-no-say hang-around member of the EU, like Switzerland and Norway. Having no say is a big minus in my book. You can call it taxation without representation, although it's all voluntary.

@steinarnielsen8954 In trade wars involving the EU, any barriers to trade directed against an EU member are countered by the bloc as a whole. The likes of China have to think twice about taking action against an EU member. The EU has the heft to make it count. Norway, not so much.

@FischerNilsA No choice indeed, especially considering Iceland has no standing army. I wonder how the NATO 2% defence investment guideline works in their case.

@samhalldorsson1102 Fine, but we do all that and maintain strong armed forces, backed by a reserve that is only second to Israel's and perhaps Switzerland's. Iceland would do well to rethink its need for a military, now that the Arctic is growing more and more strategic in both economic and military terms. Moreover, it takes decades to equip and train a military that can do more than merely guard airports and radar stations.

@johno3799 You're conveniently ignoring the fact that with our strong export-driven economies, we benefit in other ways than by receiving EU "handouts". In fact, those "handouts" are worthwhile investments. Just look at Poland and its brisk EU-fuelled economic growth. When I lived in Belgium for a spell, it was joked that unemployed Belgians would find it easier to land a job if they were taught Polish. That ought to tell you something about the Poles' work ethic.
