  1. +bornagainanatheist Ahem, Pakistan, where the Mr. Khan hails from, had a female prime minister in Benazir Bhutto. The USA, on the other hand, can't boast having had a female leader -- not quite yet. FGM isn't a Pakistani custom. You wear your ignorance on your sleeve.

  2. bornagainanatheist Waddaya know, some members of a rather obscure tribe, making up 0.01% of the Pakistani population, practice FGM. My bad. But your ignorance is still showing, because you're grossly generalising by trying to link Islam to FGM. In the same vein, I could claim you're into it, because Christians and Jews are known to practice FGM in, well, pretty much the same parts of Africa.

  3. bornagainanatheist Oh the ignorance. FGM is most common in Sub-Saharan Africa. Arabic peoples are mostly found in North African and the Arabian Peninsula. Do you call African Americans Arabs, too?

  4. bornagainanatheist I thought you already conceded that FGM is a cultural phenomenon and not inspired by religion. Don't backtrack now. Egyptians are Arabs all right -- interestingly, their country goes officially by the name 'Arab Republic of Egypt' -- and it's part of North Africa. And so are the Sudanese nowadays, after the non-Arab southern part of the country part split off.
