Putin could thwart their wicked plans with a simple stroke of the pen. By signing a withdrawal order.

This must pass for humour in Russia.

@gooky56 Your sentence doesn't make sense.

@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Russia will pay war reparations. The Russians are already using the prospect of having to compensate Ukraine as a reason to carry on the fight. The problem is, the bill only grows higher.

@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Ukraine's aiming for a defensive victory. Why would they invade Russia? The sanctions will remain in place till Russia agrees to terms that include Russia paying war reparations to Ukraine. Did you think every war ends with the other side surrendering?
1
@DreamyCheshire-up9rf No, just until the last Russian soldier has withdrawn to what is internationally recognised as Russian territory. Russia has done it before -- twice in recent history -- but the question is, will the knives come out for Putin, or was he disposed of already before the withdrawal. Time will tell.

@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Russia suffered a defeat in the First Chechen War. I expect the war in Ukraine to end the same way, with Russian troops demoralised and public opinion opposing the conflict. However, unlike in Chechnya, there won't be a Russian revanche. Ukraine will join NATO and Russia won't rebound militarily. In fact, the remnants of the Russian military will be busy stemming separatism. I expect that to be a losing battle, too.

@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Ukraine is doing a fine job at pushing the Russians back, as evidenced in the battles of Kyiv, Kharkov and Kherson. In Chechnya, the balance of power was even more lopsided, ostensibly in favour of the Russians, but all the same, the Chechens sent the Russians packing. Again, you come with your personal opinions, as if they make compelling arguments.

@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Russia pulled back -- at times, in full panic mode, abandoning heavy weapons and ammunition -- because it saw no other choice. Sun Tzu would've been proud of the Ukrainians. The master strategist considered winning without fighting supremely skilful. Expect more "voluntary" retreats by Russia in the near future. Not embarrassing at all.

@dthrust9037 Militarily speaking, cities aren't all that important. Ukraine saw an opportunity to exact a heavy toll on the Russians, who, as the attackers, were at a disadvantage casualty-wise. Urban combat is even more costly to the attacker. Ukraine knows this, so they're trying to encircle Bakhmut rather than attack it head-on. They may not even have to complete the encirclement. Their recapture of Kherson showed that the Russians do have the presence of mind to abandon a hopeless position. Next question, young man?

I don't see that happening, but when do you think Russia is renamed Ruxia and Pu Tin is made its regional governor?
1
It makes Putin see the error of his ways and pull back from Ukraine. And what did we learn from appeasing a dictator prior to WW2?
1
@DreamyCheshire-up9rf WW2, as it became known, started with Germany invading Poland. You're playing fast and loose with facts.
1
@DreamyCheshire-up9rf Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. Britain and France declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939. These are the facts. Why are you making things up?
1
@DreamyCheshire-up9rf What's your preoccupation with Warsaw? German troops crossed the Polish border on September 1, 1939. That provoked a declaration of war by Britain and France, two days later. In your befuddled mind, is the UNGA being a drama queen when it fusses over Russian invaders on Ukrainian soil, simply because Russia singularly failed to enter the capital, Kyiv? I'm sure you're very enamoured with your opinions about Western involvement in the war in Ukraine, but I have no use for them. Try to stick to the facts.
